Suspected Boko Haram fighters who attacked Bajoga,the headquarters of Funakaye local government area of Gombe, thursday morning have left the town.

Panick-stricken residents had told Daily Trust that the insurgents came in about 30 hilux vans armed with a RPGs and other weapons chanting Allahu Akbar!

 

 But residents now said the suspected insurgents have left  Bajoga after briefly occupying the town’s emier’s palace and preaching around the area.

 They said the suspected insurgents carted away vehicles and motorcycles from Ashaka where they looted dynamite last month.

Bajoga is about 70 kilometers from Gombe town, the state capital.

The attack started at about 7am on Thursday, Daily Trust learnt. The insurgents  came in through neighbouring Yobe state.

Residents  had said a military helicopter was hovering above  the town, but there were no security prescence on the ground.

A resident who spoke to Daily Trust through telephone said the rampaging insurgents targeted public buildings including schools, police stations and local government secretariat.

Last month, the insurgents launched a similar attack on Nafada, also in Gombe state. A prominent Muslim cleric Sheikh Nafada was killed in the attack while the police station, the Peoples Democratic Party secretariat among others were touched.

The same day, they raided the Ashaka cement factory, carting away truckloads of dynamites.

Gombe state shares common boundaries with Yobe state where the activities of the insurgents have been quite high in the past five years.
