Senator Shehu Sani says President Muhammadu Buhari would have protested if the government of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan piled up debts like he has done.
In a Twitter Spaces session with Daily Trust, the Senator who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th assembly, rated the government lowly.

“Never at a time as a country has Nigeria been in so much debt. We keep borrowing from everywhere,” he said.
He said whatever Buhari thought he had achieved would mean nothing if Nigerians are not secure.
“Nigeria operates a presidential system of government where enormous power center on the president and the presidency and what the president those has a direct impact on the policies of the state. How can you be a leader of a country and the NDA was attacked by bandits? Nobody was resigned, nobody was sacked.”
“It was not a simple attack. They kidnapped military personnel and also killed someone there and in a country like this, how can you say that nobody paid any price for what happened? Recently, Nigeria lost the World Cup qualifier opportunity, and the coach resigned or was sacked. If the people in the position of leadership don’t pay a price for the failure of their responsibilities and duties, you can’t change anything in this country and here we have president who is either shy or too weak to take action on his subordinate when an allegation is raised against them or when they fail and they will keep on failing.
“There have been continuous allegations that terrorism and banditry is being sustained because of the complicit collaboration with security agencies and actions have never been taken in this part of our own country on people like this. So, the president needs to be fully in charge of his office. You don’t just sit down because you appoint somebody and then things are going wrong.”
Sani also accused Buhari of keeping incompetent in office, wondering why he cannot reshuffle his cabinet.
As presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014, Buhari led thousands of party supporters in a protest rally in Abuja.
The protesters had accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Federal Government of playing politics with Boko Haram.
They also accused President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP of gross incompetence and unprecedented display of impunity.
The protest tagged ‘Salvation Rally’, was aimed at drawing global attention to what the opposition party described as deliberate hijack of the Nigeria police and other security agencies by the ruling PDP.
