We said last week that parents, a husband, and a spiritual leader have relational authority over you and that negative words from them can have severe consequences. Your boss in the office has professional administrative authority but not spiritual authority.
Why God Set Up Authority
1. For order. Hierarchy exists to ensure order and the success of a group or family.
2. Discipline. To correct, guide and direct. Romans 13:1-5
3. To provide spiritual cover. Hebrews 13:17, “17Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.” As shephereds, they watch over you to protect you.
4. To empower individuals under the authority to prosper and succeed. God gave to Moses a prescription of how to bless the children in Numbers 6:22-27. Until someone with authority places the name of God upon the children, God cannot bless. In the African culture parents either bless or curse their children depending on the behaviour of that child. The 5th Commandment in Exodus 20:12 says, “12Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” Ephesians 6:1-3, “1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. [2] Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) [3] That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” (Obey your parents in the Lord) Realize the importance of those who nurture you and give them a place of honour. Most importantly, be teachable and you will never be stagnant in life. Learn from mentors. Avoid their mistakes and don’t cut your dreams and your life short. Isaac blessed Jacob and it stuck. He prospered exceedingly. Don’t disrespect your parents when you want to get married except they are insisting you do something unscriptural. Some of you may need to go and apologize to your parents or a spiritual leader you have disrespected.
5. To teach us to honour God. Matthew 10:40 say, “He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.” Disrespect for spiritual authority is disrespect for God and it carries severe consequences.
What are the consequences of these curses?
Exodus 12:1-15, “ [8] … wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses? [9] And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; [10] …and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous…”
Consequences Of Curses From People Who Have Relational Authority Over Us
1. God’s wrath. Exodus 12:9, “And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them…”
2. Bondage or slavery, dryness and financial hardship. Psalm 68:6, “God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.” We saw the devastating generational consequences of the curse Noah pronounced on his grandson Canaan.
3. Sickness and disease. Gehazi, Miriam, and Joab were cursed with leprosy for their rebellion.
4. Marital struggles and barrenness. David’s anger made Micah barren for the rest of her life. Jephthah’s vow prevented the daughter from getting married. Judges 11:29-39
5. Premature death. Jacob cursed Rachael with premature death without knowing it. Genesis 31:32, “32With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.” Disrespect for people with relational authority can trigger premature death in addition to a life of struggle.
Steps To Breaking This Kind Of Curse
1. Believe you can be free. Isaiah 49:24-25, “24Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered? [25] But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.”
2. Confess your sins and ask God for forgiveness.
3. Apologize to the leader where possible. Aaron humbled himself and apologized to Moses. Remember he and Miriam were older than Moses, yet he referred to Moses as ‘my lord.’
4. Plead the finished work of Christ on the cross. Christ has redeemed us from the curse. Galatians 3:13
5. Get an anointed and experienced spiritual leader to to minister to you and bless you. 2Kings 2:18- 22
Pray the following prayers:
1. I repent of every form of rebellion against God, my parents and against any spiritual authority over me. Forgive me Father, in the Name of Jesus.
2. Let every curse operating in my life from anyone with relational authority over me, be revoked and reversed now, in Jesus Name.
3. I command all limitations in my life resulting from these curses to be lifted now, in Jesus Name.
4. I reject premature death and receive long life. Whatever has been programmed to cut my life short, fail, in the Name of Jesus.
I break, revoke and reverse every curse of anyone with relational authority over you in Jesus Name. Every evil voice speaking into your life ceases to be effective from this moment. They are permanently silenced in Jesus Name. Every limiting and damaging ancestral pronouncement is hereby reversed. Let every damage done to your destiny by these curses be repaired now in Jesus Name. Let the anointing for lifting the burden and destroying the yoke of these curses come on you now in Jesus Name. I terminate every sentence of premature death on your life in Jesus Name. I declare you blessed. You will succeed, you will prosper and excel; you will live long in Jesus Name!
