Speaker Tambuwal

The Department of State Services (DSS) has returned its officers and men to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who were withdrawn five months ago.

Sources close to the Speaker told Daily Trust that the DSS personnel who were withdrawn on October 30, last year, have been redeployed back to the Speaker.

However, the Nigeria Police is yet to restore its officers and men who were also withdrawn together with the DSS.

Our correspondent who visited the Speaker’s residence in Maitama, Abuja sighted some of the DSS operatives in the House.
Tambuwal had been away to Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj and returned to Nigeria on Wednesday afternoon where he met the DSS officers including the chief security officer and chief detail.
The Federal government had on October 30th withdrawn all security personnel attached to the Speaker after he defected from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

One of the DSS men that were returned told Daily Trust that they received signal to resume duty at the Speaker’s residence in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Speaker has been having a running battle with the Police with the Inspector General Suleiman Abba refusing to recognise him as Speaker arguing that by defecting to the APC, Tambuwal has lost his membership of the House of Representatives.
The police also locked the Speaker out on November 20 and later tear gassed him along with dozens of other lawmakers.
Already, a senate investigative panel has cleared the IGP of any blame over the security siege on National Assembly complex.

Tambuwal is now the Sokoto state APC governorship candidate.
