Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been held hostage in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The commission announced this on Sunday, calling on security agencies to facilitate their release.
“Unfolding Situation in Brass Local Government Area. The Commission is closely watching the situation in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State where our officials are held hostage.”
“This is detrimental to credible elections. We call on the security agencies to immediately facilitate their release.”
The development comes 24 hours after Ms Ebehireme Blessing Ekwe, Supervisory Presiding Officer (SPO), who was abducted on election eve, regained freedom.
Both Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters have protested in Bayelsa.
INEC has so far collated results of three LGAs, with incumbent Governor Duoye Diri of the PDP ahead of Timipre Sylva, his APC rival.
There are eight LGAs in Bayelsa.
