BREAKING: Liberian ebola carrier dies in Lagos


Anxiety has gripped residents of Lagos State following the death of the Liberian national, Mr. Patrick Sawyer who was earlier suspected to have been a carrier of Ebola virus.

Sawyer who was a WASH Consultant at the Ministry of Finance, Liberia, died early today ( Friday) at a private hospital, First Consultant Medical Hospital, Obalende, Lagos. Since the Liberian illness spread across Lagos on Thursday, the combined team of both Federal and Lagos State Government officials had been working round the clock and allayed the fears of possible spread of the disease in the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina on Thursday while giving details of the 40-year-old Liberian, said his blood sample have been obtained, adding that he is presently being treated in isolation at a private hospital on the Lagos Island.
She explained that the Liberian arrived in Lagos on a flight from Monrovia via Lome on Sunday July 20, 2014 at about 4pm.
Adeshina said, “Based on this, the patient was admitted and detained on suspicion for possible EBV infections while blood sample collection and testing was initiated of which included samples of the Virology Reference Laboratory LUTH, Idi-Araba.
