The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has relieved the Head Coach of the national team, Stephen Keshi of his job.

The Executive Committee of the body rose from a meeting that dragged into Thursday morning to declare the decision in a Communique.

Keshi’s assistants, Daniel Amokachi and Ike Shorounmu were also shown the door.

 

“In the interest of Nigeria football and the desire to ensure qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals, the Committee decided to relieve them of their duties with immediate effect,” the communiqué said.

Consequently, the NFF Executive Committee approved the appointment of a consortium of coaches to help the team qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations before engaging the services of a foreign coach.

“Committee also, unanimously, approved the appointment of a consortium of coaches to lead the Super Eagles for only the two concluding matches of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series (against Congo in Brazzaville and against South Africa in Uyo), after which an expatriate Coach will be appointed,” the communiqué read.

The consortium of coaches is to be led by former Super Eagles coach Amodu Shaibu. Other are Salisu Yusuf, Gbenga Ogunbote and Aloysius Agu. “The team also has a new Coordinator in former international Garba Lawal, while Toyin Ibitoye is the new Media Officer and Godfirst Chike is the new Equipment Manager. Team Secretary, Enebi Achor, is retained,” the communique reads in part.

Although, the Eagles won the AFCON last year for the country after 19 years, the team has been off-form since then, winning just twice in their last 12 matches.
