At least two police officers have been killed in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State.

According to community sources, the policemen were shot dead by unknown persons on Wednesday morning.

Irene Ugbo, Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River, confirmed the attack to Daily Trust.

Ugbo, who did not go into details said the officers were killed while their arms were carted away.

There are also reports that a soldier was killed in a separate attack but Daily Trust cannot independently verify this.

At least 10 policemen have been killed in the line of duty within a week.

Last week, armed men broke into police stations in Imo and Abia States, killing officers and setting the stations on fire.

Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, had later announced that some of the persons behind the attack in Aba, Abia State, had been killed.

But rather than deter those behind the attacks, they carried out fresh attacks, especially in the south.

It is unclear what their motive is.

The last time when policemen were targeted in a similar manner was during the fallout of the October #EndSARS protest.

Many police stations were set ablaze while at least 20 policemen were killed.
