The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has warned Aviation Security (AVSEC) officials indulging in unprofessional conduct by asking for favours at the airport to desist or face the consequences.

The Director, Aviation Security Services, FAAN Group Captain Usman A Sadiq (Rtd) issued the riot act at the National Aviation Security Day and Awards, which was held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Thursday.

He also asked passengers to report any unprofessional conduct by any AVSEC officials.

“We don’t tolerate our AVSEC officials demanding favours from passengers. If anyone is found wanting, we deal with the person. We also urge Nigerians to even report the person immediately because we have supervisors and so many senior officers working alongside them, sometimes in mufti,” he explained.

“If you report, we have CCTV cameras, and we playback the video. If the person is found wanting, we deal with him or her according to the law.”

The FAAN MD, Captain Rabiu Yadudu, said FAAN has recalibrated security architecture at the airports and also acquired new security facilities.

He said Nigeria is one of the 16 countries that ICAO has commended over aviation safety. He noted that security will be constantly improved as a single action, locally or internationally, can render a country’s security system ineffective. He commended AVSEC officials for the improved security at the nation’s airports.
