A 48-year-old bricklayer who allegedly bit off a man’s right thumb was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ikeja magistrates’ court in Lagos.

Gbenga Odebiyi, charged with causing grievous harm, however, denied committing the offence and pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused had on February 6, accosted and physically assaulted the complainant, Mr. Adewumi Oladosu, inside a building at Ipaja in Lagos because he refused to give him N200.

“The accused begged the complainant to give him N200, which he refused.

“Odebiyi gave Oladosu a bite and chopped off his right thumb which caused him an open injury. “The complainant sustained an injury following the bite he received from the accused during an argument,” he told the court.

The Magistrate, Mrs. G.O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to March 7, for further hearing. (NAN)
