The competition is organised by the South-West States FA Chairmen’s Forum to prepare clubs in the zone for the national league and ultimately groom one for the premier league next season.

Four clubs Bridge Boys, Osun United, Gateway FC of Abeokuta and Fountain FC of Ado-Ekiti participated but two from Ondo and Oyo will join the next edition.

Coach Lateef Daramola of Bridge Boys told newsmen after the match that he was happy with his team’s performance.

“I am delighted by the performance of my boys; they really proved their skill and I am certain we will win the trophy,” he said.

Akeem Olalekan, coach of Osun United, said that though his team was defeated, they did their best, adding that the team were barely two weeks old.

“The team were formed two weeks ago, the boys were selected from different areas in the state, there was no adequate training before the competition,” Olalekan said

According to him, the state does not have its own football team and that after the competition, the boys will be retained as the state’s new team,’’ he said.

Fuad Ekelojuoti scored Bridge Boys’ lone goal in the 60th minute.

In the second game of the day, Gateway FC defeated Fountain FC Ado-Ekiti 2-1.
