The 2018 Bristol Short Story Prize, in association with Tangent Books, is open for entries. The competition is open to all writers around the world, whether published or unpublished.

Twenty stories will be shortlisted and published in Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology Volume 11. The winner and two runners up will be selected from the shortlist and announced at an awards ceremony which will be held in Bristol in October 2018.

First prize is £1,000, second prize is £700, and third prize is £400. Seventeen further prizes of £100 will be presented to the remaining shortlisted writers. All shortlisted writers will receive two free copies of the anthology. Prizes will be sent to any writer on the shortlist who is unable to attend the awards ceremony.

The closing date for entries is May 1 2018. The maximum word limit is 4,000, there is no minimum. Stories may be on any theme or subject and entry can be made online or by post. There is an £8.00 entry fee for all stories submitted and entries must be previously unpublished.

The 2017 Bristol Short Story Prize was won by Dima Alzayat for her story, ‘Ghusl’. Second prize went to Chetna Maroo, and a joint third prize was awarded to Nigeria’s Bunmi Ogunsiji and Meg Tuite.
