He stated this when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Liyel Imoke of the state recently at Government House in Calabar.
Mr. Carter noted that there are great opportunities in agriculture in the state which when exploited fully would be beneficial to both countries.
The diplomat said his government would help Cross River to rebuild the palm oil industry which was the first major trade between Nigeria and Britain centuries ago.
He also acknowledged the tourism policy thrust of the state, disclosing his intention to bring more British investments.
The deputy high commissioner expressed his intention to visit Calabar Free Trade Zone and Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort and see other available opportunities in order to encourage British companies.
In his remarks, Governor Imoke noted that the visit was apt as the state is strongly diversifying its economy in agriculture, hospitality and tourism as a way of shifting its dependence on petroleum.
He said that the state sets to position itself as a destination for business under a service driven economy and has invested in key areas like Information and Communication Technology (ICT), hospitality and agriculture.
The governor said that it is the state’s belief that breaking away from the traditional way of farming will create value chain and a partnership between Britain and Cross River State.
