The 29-year-old Kate, whose maternal side was linked with working in the coal mines, is said to be the first commoner in 350 years to marry a prince with such a close proximity to the throne.

 

The marriage was solemnized in the 1,000-year-old Westminster Abbey church, near the British Houses of Parliament, before the couple drove in a 1902 open-topped carriage to the Buckingham Palace.

An estimated one million people, including 44 foreign royals, several Commonwealth leaders, British politicians and celebrities, diplomats and 51 members of Queen Elizabeth’s extended family and the Middletons, attended the ceremony.

Fans from many parts of the world camped near and around the palace to witness the event which was said to have been watched live by an estimated two billion people in televisions around the world. No breach of peace has been reported at the time of filing this report yesterday night. Yesterday’s wedding was seen as the biggest royal wedding since Diana married William’s father Charles in 1981 and many economists hope that the event would bring a feel-good effect on the struggling British economy.
