The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said that five more Infrastructure Companies (InfraCos) would be licensed in the next three to six months for the deployment of broadband services in the country.
The executive vice chairman of the commission, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, during an international press conference on Wednesday at Sheraton hotel, Lagos, said NCC had set motion for the licensing process for new InfraCos.
He said new InfraCos would be responsible for broadband infrastructure in South West, South South, South East, North West and North East.
According to him, the commission is considering  a report from the committee set up to look into the licensing of the five zones, having licensed Lagos to MainOne amd North Central to IHS.
He said the NCC was currently engaging both MainOne and IHS to resolve issues hindering infrastructure roll-out in the two zones already licensed.
