As part of her 40th birthday celebration, broadcaster Milliscent Nnwoka has given back to her alma mater, Sanya Senior Grammar School, by sponsoring its Prize-Giving Ceremony and instituting the Milliscent Nnwoka Prize for Educational Excellence and Conduct—a new annual award recognizing outstanding students and teachers.
In addition to sponsoring the event, she donated 150 new plastic seats for the school’s assembly hall and presented cash awards to deserving students and teachers. Her husband, Daniel Nnwoka also contributed by giving extra cash gifts to students who excelled in multiple subjects.
A posthumous award was presented in honor of Oreoluwa Shonibare, founder SQN Solutions and dear friend and strong supporter of the initiative. The event was graced by notable individuals, including Cecilia Omorege and Reverend Father Joe Elegbede, and the many supporters both at home and abroad whose contributions were deeply appreciated.
The School Principal Mrs Florence Olodeoku and the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Educational District 4, Mr Olawale Olusegun Osinaike expressed their gratitude for this impactful gesture. Impressed by the initiative, the Permanent Secretary Olawale Osinaike Education District IV who promised to escalate the recognition to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, potentially opening doors for further educational support.
Speaking at the event, Milliscent Nnwoka emphasized the importance of giving back to education and inspiring the next generation. “Education shaped my journey, and I believe in supporting those who will shape the future. This is just the beginning,” she said.
This initiative marks the start of a long-term commitment to empowering students and fostering excellence in education.
