Broadoaks British School has intensified efforts to develop young sporting talents with the launch of a new scholarship programme that recognises excellence in athletics, swimming and football alongside academics and the creative arts.

The Abuja-based Cambridge-accredited international school said the initiative is designed to identify and support talented students who can excel both on the field and in the classroom.

The 2026 Scholarship Programme which offers both Academic Scholarships and Specialist Scholarships in Sport, Music, and Art, providing opportunities for gifted students to access quality education while developing their sporting, musical and artistic abilities within a structured environment.

The Scholarship Assessment Day is scheduled to hold on May 16 at the school’s campus in Maitama, Abuja.

Head of School, Dr. Jill Cowie, said the programme reflects the school’s broader vision of nurturing well-rounded students through a balanced approach to academics and co-curricular activities.

“At Broadoaks, we believe that education must go beyond examination results. Academic standards are extremely important to us, but equally, we are committed to developing well-rounded young people—students who demonstrate kindness, resilience, leadership, and a strong sense of purpose. This scholarship programme allows us to recognise excellence in all its forms and invest in the future of exceptional young people.” she said.

According to the school, candidates applying under the sports scholarship category will undergo structured assessments in football, athletics and swimming as part of the selection process.

Broadoaks noted that it has continued to invest in sports and co-curricular development to ensure students compete and grow beyond the classroom environment.

The school added that successful scholars would benefit from leadership opportunities, mentorship and personalised support aimed at helping them balance academics with sporting excellence.

In addition to sports scholarships, the programme also covers academic, music and visual arts categories, while means-tested awards have been included to support students from less privileged backgrounds.
