It was recently announced that ‘Fela,’ a play produced by legendary artistic director and choreographer Bill T. Jones, will be showing on Broadway soon. The show had an initial successful off-Broadway run (that means lower profile) late last year and won a New York Magazine Award for Best Theatre.
A Nigerian couple who watched the show told Trust Entertainment that the enjoyed it. “”We felt proud to be Nigerians,” they said in an e-mail.
It has also been reported that American megastars Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Jay-Z, and possibly Will Smith and Denzel Washington will be investing in the $11 million production. But Sierra Leonian Sahr Ngaujah will continue the role of Fela with a cast from all over the world.
In a report on TMZ.com, a popular celeb site, Keys reportedly commented that Fela is one of the greatest artists that ever lived. “I get inspired every time I hear his work,” said the multiple-Grammy winner.
