Bruno Fernandes named EPL Player of the Season

Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United midfielder, has been voted the English Premier League Player of the Season.

The club captain snaps up the accolade following a season in which the Portugal international has equaled the EPL all-time assists record of 20 assists, and also contributed eight goals in the league.

Fernandes has also created the highest number of chances by any player in the EPL season, and his leadership has seen Man United return to the UEFA Champions League with a third-place league finish.

The Red Devils will play in the UCL for the first time in three years, thanks to the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder.

Fernandes is the seventh Man United player to win this award, following in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Dwight Yorke, Peter Schemeichel, and others.

The 31-year-old playmaker is only the third Portuguese to win the award.

Fernandes’ award comes weeks after he also won the Football Writers Association’s footballer of the year award.

He topped a field of eight contestants that includes Arsenal trio Gabriel, David Raya and Declan Rice, Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo. Others are Brentford striker Igor Thiago, and Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

He has featured in 34 league matches this season, and can break the all-time assist record in a season in Man United’s final match against Aston Villa this weekend.
