BTG Group to set up precast factory

Executive Chairman of BTG Group Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu who spoke at a housing solution conference in Abuja Thursday said that his company has ordered precast machinery from Weiber GmbH.
Weiler GmbH is engineering and manufacturing company for the precast concrete industry with headquarters in Germany. The company supplies its technology on all continents. It has more than 300 machines and turnkey plants.
According to Arodiogbu, “It [precast] isn’t new in Nigeria but you can’t beat the German skill.”
Precast involves production of columns and hollow core wall panels based on what is intended to be developed. Products are cast on bed and cut to shape before taken to site for mounting.
The concrete panels can be used for mass housing, town houses, apartment blocks and high-rise towers.
Director – Head of Sales Department of Weiber GmbH, Christoph Muller-Bernhardt who did a presentation maintained that precast concrete is Africa’s solution to housing needs.
“It is individual solution for all applications. Hollow core slab cure in only 12 hours. It saves time and materials – no weather impact. It is based on natural materials. It is fire, earthquake and hurricane proof. A house built with this technology can last 100 years,” Muller-Bernhardt explained.
“The entire world, not only Nigeria, is facing increasing demands for qualitative, affordable, high-quality with quick delivery time  homes for people due to the population explosion all over, and Nigeria is more than committed to provide these homes to its citizens.
“Weiler GmbH is more than happy that our global leading precast technologies, machines, and services hasve been core to this unique business partnership with BTG Group Nigeria Limited with sole objective of providing high quality affordable homes and buildings on a very large scale in Nigeria for the huge population of Nigeria within a very short timeframe,” said Mueller-Bernhardt.
Charles Yemi Farimoyo who is one of the investors said plants are mobile so they can be mounted close to where the products are needed, adding that each geographical zone of Nigeria will have a plant.
Farimoyo said his company is partnering Anambra State government for start of the project.
Former Nigeria Ambassador to Germany Charles Onwuagbu applauded the initiative saying he was part of it. According to him, anywhere he goes, he looks out for opportunities to exploit to bring something home for his country.
Business Manager, Retail Banking Group of First Bank Plc Austin Aduku promised his bank’s partnership.
