The 4th Edition of the Quarter Marathon race for 30 Secondary Schools in Cross River State has ended in Calabar with budding stars dominating the race.

The event was held yesterday in Calabar to mark World’s AIDs Day.

The star attraction was 10-year-old Godstime Nelson from Excellence Standard Institute of Success, Calabar, who clinched the top prize for girls.

13-year-old Martina Ugo of St. Marks Secondary School, Bekwara local government came up second while 14-year-old Agnes Eyo of Government Secondary School Big Qua in Calabar took third place.   

In the male category, 19-year-old Samuel Solomon, from Government Secondary School, Bakassi Local government clinched first position, Sunday Bassey of Rainbow High school, Okang in Bakassi local government took second place while Clement Imoh of Technical College Calabar came third.

Dr Daniel Okwoche, founder of Talents Afrique Reservoir Foundation who sponsored the 12 kilometer marathon race said, “We annually stage the race to create awareness amongst adolescent and teenagers about AIDS.

“Catching these athletes very young will also go a long way to strengthen our sports sector in the country.

“These Athletes may end up representing the country at international competitions. Five years from now, they may go higher than this.”

The team coach, Chief Austin Ellah, said he was impressed with the competition, but advised that proper modalities should be put in place to enhance better performance from the athletes in their future competitions.
