Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo suffered same fate in the military as they were disengaged same day.
Osinbajo spoke yesterday at the reception which climaxed activities lined up for the 75th birthday of the paramount ruler in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
Osinbajo said the similar letter was written to Buhari and Gbadebo, pointing out that it was by dint of Providence that former has become President and the latter a foremost monarch in Nigeria.
Osinbajo quoted Buhari to have told him the story some days when he informed the President of his plan to attend birthday celebration.
The Vice President conducted cutting of the birthday cake and equally unveiled a book titled “Giant Strides Of A Vintage Monarch” which was written in honor of Alake.
He described Alake as extraordinary individual who distinguished himself through out his career and now as monarch.
“A few days ago while I was speaking with Mr President and I told him that I will coming here (birthday ceremony)… He told me that he and the Kabiyesi (Alike) suffered the same fate in the military as there were disengaged same day. The same letter that was written to you (Alake) was written to him (President).
“Today, one of them is the President and the other is one of the grand monarchs in Nigeria,” Osinajo said.
Also speaking at the reception, former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who eulogised the monarch, said his reign had brought tremendous development to Egbaland.
Dignitaries at the birthday reception include Gov. Ibikunle Amosun, former Governor of the state, Olusegun Osoba, former Secretary General Commonwealth, Emeka Anyaoku.
