The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has said that the President Muhammadu Buhari  led administration is committed to the dualisation of the entire section of the Trans-Saharan route in Nigeria.
Fashola gave this assurance while declaring open the 65th Session of Trans-Saharan Road Liaison Committee Meeting held yesterday in   Abuja.
The minister said that Nigeria attaches great importance to the development of the Trans-Saharan roads, saying that Nigeria has made tremendous progress on various road projects.
“Amongst these projects are the 127.70km Lagos-Ibadan expressway which is under reconstruction; the 50km, section II of Oyo-Ogbomoso road between Ibadan and Ilorin and the 90km road between Ilorin and Jebba which are also under reconstruction,” he said.
The Minister further said  that the “65th Session of the Trans-Saharan Road Liaison Committee offers member countries the opportunity to strengthen the existing bilateral relations and provides an avenue to assess the extent of work that has been undertaken in ensuring the completion of the Trans-Saharan route.”
He assured the committee that all major routes in Nigeria that link the Trans-Saharan route will be up-graded while future road interventions would take the form of dualisation.
Earlier, the Secretary General, Trans-Saharan Road Liaison Committee, Mr. Mohammad Ayadi, appreciated the Federal Government for its roles since the inception of the committee and for hosting   this year’s conference.
