his is the fourth time General Muhammadu Buhari, noted for his probity, will be seeking election into the office of the president.

Former military head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) today in Abuja formally declared his intention to run for the office of president of Nigeria under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Buhari made his declaration in the presence of a huge crowd and party stalwarts.

Addressing the crowd, General Buhari said since 2009, the PDP had presided over Nigeria’s decline. He said the APC have resolved to stop them in their tracks.

“I humbly present myself to all Nigerians and to God, seeking to be elected as APC’s presidential candidate,” Buhari said.

Some of the prominent APC leaders present were former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Audu Ogbeh, former Bayelsa state governor Timipre Sylva, Rivers state governor Chibuike Amaechi, former Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives Rt Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, Edo state governor Adams Oshiomhole, Lagos state governor Babatunde Fashola, serving members of the National Assembly and other party officials.

In his goodwill address, former Bayelsa state governor Timipre Sylva said the nation’s economy which is currently in the doldrums needed revamping.

“Nigeria’s economy today needs revamping. Our security is in dire need of resuscitation, our economy is in shambles. Over 200 girls from Chibok are still nowhere to be found. The good news is that we have the solution to the myriad of problems confronting Nigeria today. Gen Buhari is that solution. We are happy that he has come out of retirement to revamp Nigeria. Some people say Gen Buhari is too old; we will not use age as an advantage in this campaign, so we don’t look as if we are riding on the inexperience of our opponents,” Sylva said.

Rivers state governor Chibuike Amaechi in his address said the APC remains one strong and indivisible party and its governors have resolved to work with any candidate that emerges as the APC presidential candidate.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar recently made a formal declaration to contest for the same position on the platform of the opposition party.

Kano state Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Leadership Newspaper founder, Sam Nda-Isiah are other contenders for the ticket of the APC for the presidential election.
