President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday approved the payment of the balance of the 50 percent of the London and Paris Club refunds, directing the 36 state governors to clear workers’ salaries by December.
The president, while meeting with a delegation of the Nigerian Governors Forum, said this was to make all Nigerian workers happy during Christmas.
He, therefore, directed the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun; the Minister of the Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udoma and the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to negotiate with the governors on the payment of the outstanding London and Paris Club refund.
Addressing State House reporters after the meeting, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-rufai, said the president expressed the need for all Nigerian workers to enjoy Christmas.
According to him, the president instructed that with the balance of the 50 percent of the Paris Club refund coming, all states must clear salaries by December.
During the meeting, Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, sought a special intervention beyond the Paris Club refunds for his state.
