President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the Tudun Magayaki /
Cemetery Gully erosion and flood control project in Sokoto state.
The N800 million project in Sokoto South local government area of the
state, was one of the 11 federal government’s ecological intervention
projects approved by the President in 2017.
“Having successfully completed the project, there is no doubt that
the living standard of the people in the communities within its
environs would be enhanced,” Buhari stated.
The President who was represented by the Chairman, Northern Senators Forum, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko added: “This would at the same time reduce dangers to lives and properties associated with erosion and persistent flooding that had been experienced in recent times.”
He expressed optimism that the federal government intervention would
bring a huge relief to the communities which he noted had for a very
long time been stressed by the ecological challenges.
Buhari promised that the federal government would soon commence
similar erosion and flood control projects at River Rima and Makuwana
community in the state.
“The present administration would not leave any part of the country to
suffer any neglect owing to its geographical location or political
consideration,” he stated.
The President asserted: “To further consolidate the gains of this
giant stride, the federal government’s execution of projects across
the country also demonstrates the sincerity of purpose of my
administration towards entrenching justice, equity and fair play to
all and sundry.”
He reiterated the present administration’s determination to continue
with the implementation of government policies, agreements and
contracts at both national and international levels that are aimed at
laying a solid foundation to the quest for a virile and prosperous
nation.
President Buhari called on the benefiting communities to take full
ownership of the project, and guard it from encroachment and
vandalism.
