President-elect Muhammadu Buhari has received the certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
The certificate of return was presented by the returning officer of the 2015 presidential election and INEC chairman Professor Attahiru Jega at the International Conference Centre, Abuja on Wednesday.
The Vice President-Elect Professor Yemi Osinabjo also received his certificate of return.
In his short remarks, Buhari said he was humbled by the fact that Nigerians have finally chosen him to lead them.
He said he has no ill feelings against anybody, adding President Goodluck Jonathan has showed a good sportsmanship.
He said: “there should be no ruling party again, APC should be a governing party.”
Buhari lamented that it was with a heavy heart that many people died on Tuesday while celebrating his victory.
He urged Nigerians “to forget and put the recent past in the past.”
He also said there won’t be sacred cows and no Nigerian will be treated based on his social status, ethnicity, religion or gender.”
He promised to be fair to all those who voted for him, who didn’t vote for him and even those who didn’t even vote at all.
Buhari was accompanied to the event by his wife Hajiya Aisha Buhari, Governors Kashim Shettima (Borno), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (Sokoto), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Umaru Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) among others.
