Buhari’s fourth: It’s now real

The other four contenders – Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, Governor Rochas Okorocha and Mr. Sam Nnda Isaiah would not really pose any threat in making impossible the Buhari candidacy under the platform of the APC, because the retired General has enjoyed and is still enjoying the people’s confidence and their yearn for positive change in this country. It is therefore not a surprise when counting the ballots started at the primaries General Muhammadu Buhari polled total votes of 3,430 out of the more than 7,000 delegates’ votes.
It is only Buhari in the whole of this country that can enjoy such mass appeal from the people. A lot of unexpected things happened in the primaries held in Lagos, but what came to the open was the acceptability the General had in the South-East and the South-South which broke the jinx of him as a strong religious bigot who only cared for the Muslims. Those who tagged him with such an incredulous label are political adversaries threatened by the support he enjoys from the people of this country. It is clear that General Muhammadu Buhari would, in the election proper come 2015, give the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan a good run for his money. Most of the co-contenders, like the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have shown good sportsmanship by conceding and congratulating the victor.
The task has now shifted from General Muhammadu Buhari to all the party men and women to now vigorously come out from any shell they may be in and assiduously work for the ultimate victory of the party and General Buhari at the polls next year. He stands a good chance of becoming the next President of the country once the people put aside any primordial interest and work in unison for the success of the party and the candidates against the dreaded PDP and its candidates. People should eschew political rancour and money bags and vote according to their conscience in order to ease out the PDP and their presidential candidate. The people have suffered too much, especially in the North East where insurgents have ravaged so many towns and villages with scores of people losing their lives and hard-earned properties worth billions of naira.
Insecurity has scuttled the business opportunities of people who now live from hand to mouth. The year for making General Buhari’s presidency is now and the people should rally round and see to its actualization. He will transform this country. This generation and indeed future generations yet unborn, have no other country except Nigeria and we must stay and salvage it together.
