Buhari seeks Senate’s confirmation for Emefiele’s second term

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has requested the Senate to confirm Goodwin Emefiele as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for another five years.

Buhari’s request was contained in a letter read at the end of Thursday’s plenary by Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Emefiele’s tenure would be expiring next month after serving for five years, from June 2014.

However, if confirmed by the Senate, he would be serving for another five years, which is not renewable.

Our correspondent reports that communications from the president are usually read at the beginning of plenary, but because this one apparently came after the commencement of sitting, Saraki had to read it at the end of the session.
