President Muhammadu Buhari is to address a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday December 10.

That’s according to Lauretta Onochie, a social media aide to the president.

She posted the announcement on her social media handle on Monday.

The content of the address is yet unknown.

But the address is expected to be wide ranging.

Insecurity across the country has dominated headlines recently and is expected to be part of the address.

At the weekend, a caucus of the opposition People’s Democractic Party in the House of Representatives called for the president to be impeached.

Last Tuesday, the House of Representatives had invited the President to appear on the floor of the lower chamber of the National Assembly to speak on the rising insecurity in the country, following a motion of urgent national importance moved by the Borno State caucus on the killing of farmers in the state.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, had earlier said that President Buhari had agreed to appear before the lower chamber while fielding questions from State House reporters last Wednesday after leading a delegation of its leadership for a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Last week, the Coalition of Northern Groups said Buhari had failed in securing the country.

The group also called for a security review meeting in Kaduna to seek “regulated self protection.”
