Buhari’s heavy cross

President Muhammadu Buhari

Buhari can take a cue from South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa who appointed his ministers less than a month after his victory and hit the ground running. He should also look beyond his northern region to see competence in other regions, especially in the appointment of his security chiefs.

Appointing almost one hundred percent of his security chiefs from northern Nigerian gives him away as a sectional leader. There cannot be a better way to prove he is for everybody and not for nobody than spreading his net wide in search of competent hands. It is healthy for our fragile unity.

No doubt, the task ahead of Mr President is enormous. He has a very heavy cross to carry in the next four years. But he asked for the job,and over 15 million Nigerians employed him, according to the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).It is his to design how he wants to be remembered by posterity.
