The best of traditional activities were rolled out as Alhaji Musa Haro was turbaned Dan Madamin Daura.

 

It was a gathering of the crème de la crème of the society as top government officials, politicians, traditional rulers, as well as business moguls, converged on the palace of the Emir of Daura, Umar Faruk Umar, to witness the turbaning of Musa Haro as the new Dan Madamin Daura.

Haro is a nephew to President Muhammadu Buhari. He is a son to the president’s only surviving elder sister. The title of Dan Madami, which was bestowed on Haro, is among the emirate’s highest and revered.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led Federal Government’s delegation to the ceremony, which also had the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari and Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, amongst others.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan led members of the National Assembly, who came in large numbers.

The governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, also attended while seven deputy governors: Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara, Yobe and Kano were also in attendance.

Traditional musicians and drummers, as well as a mini durbar, added glamour to the event as praise singers and acrobatic displays showcased the cultural heritage of the historical emirate.

As early as 10am, the palace was filled with well-wishers and friends, who came from far and wide to witness the ceremony.

The event, however, couldn’t commence until a little past 2pm with the arrival of the celebrant and the top dignitaries who flew in through the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport in Katsina before using helicopters to Daura. Others who couldn’t make it by air drove the 75km road to Daura town to grace the occasion.

When all was set at the palace, Haro and some of his friends upon arrival, paid homage to the emir, who gave the go-ahead to the Galadiman Daura, Ahmad Diddiri Ahmad and Kauran Daura, Yakubu Mohammed to commence proceedings.

After the turbaning, Haro was presented before the emir, who  handed him the staff of office in form of a sword and ushered him into the emirate.

Haro then rode on a horse, amidst cheers of drummers and well-wishers who thronged to catch a glimpse of the occasion.

The Emir of Daura, Umar Faruk, said the appointment and turbaning of Haro as a district head was due to his contribution to the development of the emirate and the country in general.

The emir commended Osinbajo for an unalloyed loyalty and commitment to their son, President Buhari, saying he is the most trustworthy vice president who has the interest of the country at heart.

He said the traditional institution would continue to identify with the Buhari-led administration as it strives to reposition the country.

Haro was born in Daura on May 10, 1975, to Alhaji Haro Lamido and Hajiya Rakiya Danbafale. Haro’s mother, Rakiya, is related to President Buhari.

A holder of a Higher National Diploma in Business Administration, Haro is a director of many companies, among them Kaura Motors, Power Hill Construction and Jidde Integrated Service Limited. He is also the chairman of Stretrede Nigeria Limited.
