The special roles that town planning, municipal and development control authorities play to stem the growing concern about collapsing structures cannot be over-emphasised.
There have been several cases of building collapse across the country in the past and recent times but many have criticized  the government for  not applying  appropriate punishment and sanctions on  those responsible in most cases.
A recent building collapse statistics released by the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, NBRRI, shows building collapse incidences that occurred between 2011 and 2012 in  the table below:
