Asogwa listed the facilities to be provided by the Nsukka local government to include a police post, a bore-hole and toilets.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka, Enugu State on Friday that the request was to guarantee the security of the traders and their customers both at the night and in day time while the toilets would discourage open defecation.
According to the chairman, the bore-hole will not only provide water for the people to wash themselves after work but will be a close source of water in the event of fire.
 “This new place is good but it will be more comfortable and secure if we have a police post, bore-hole as well as toilet facilities to answer the call of nature.
“We have enough space and better stores here than where we were before and a big hall for meetings which we did not have,’’ he said.
He expressed appreciation on behalf of the association to the local government chairman for the new market as it was better than the old place.
On the reluctance by some traders to relocate to the new market, Asogwa said some of them were afraid they might lose their customers.
He pleaded with traders who were yet to relocate to do so in their own interest as the local government had vowed to arrest and prosecute any trader selling building materials in any other part of the town.
“The local government has set up a taskforce to arrest building material dealers in Nsukka, Ede-Oballa, Opi and Eha-Alumoma who refused to relocate to the new building materials site.
“The government invested so much money in building the new market and will not like numerous stores in the place to remain unoccupied.
“We have many stores here that will accommodate all building materials dealers,” he said. (NAN)
