‘Building sector has lost artisans to okada riding’

He stated this at the Annual General Meeting/Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Builders (NIOB) Lagos State chapter with the theme “Effect of facility management in building construction industry”.
He decried the situation whereby the country now goes as far as Togo and Benin to recruit artisans, attributing it exodus of artisans  to okada business.
Also speaking, former Lagos State Commissioner for Environment Muiz Banire said there is lack of synergy among various professionals in the building environment, adding that construction can only be enhanced if each professional knows where their role starts and ends.
“NIOB must as a matter of urgency focus on the sustainability of existing infrastructure and not just on building new properties. The institute must also be at the vanguard of those assisting the entire citizenry to stem the tide of unplanned structures springing up everywhere,” said Banire.
He called for the establishment of some sort of “report card” that will help to monitor the progress of NIOB members.
