The Alumni Association of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has re-elected members of its National Executive Council to manage the affairs of the association for the next two years.
The re-election took place at the Convocation Square of BUK following the expiration of the Exco’s last tenure which began in 2013.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President of the BUK Alumni, Muhammad Dattijo Usman said the aim of the alumni association was to improve the welfare of its alma mater through developmental programmes that would benefit the teeming population of students in the varsity.
He identified water scarcity and dilapidation of toilets as some of the main problems facing the university community and promised to make efforts to address the issues.
“We will do our best in providing sufficient water for the university using the latest technology available and we will also provide decent toilets in the hostels especially at the female hostels so that they can be safe from potential attacks in the bushes,” he said.
In his remarks, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, called on the alumni members to explore avenues that would improve the lives of BUK students, adding that population explosion and financial constraints were the key factors affecting quality education delivery in the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Alhaji Aminu Rabo the governor said he was open to any constructive advice on development of education from the association.
