The Bayero University Kano (BUK), 1992 alumni forum yesterday secured the freedom of six prison inmates from Kano Central Prison as part of the forum’s 2018 community service activities.
Chairman of the forum, Malam Muhammad Dahiru Sa’ad, stated that inmates were freed after payment of their fines and compensations.
The forum had earlier paid a courtesy visit to BUK’s Vice Chancellor Professor Yahuza Bello in his office where it presented a N1million cheque as its modest contribution for the support of less-privileged students in need of financial assistance to support their education.
Chairman further revealed that the forum had paid medical bills of 10 cancer patients, provide essential drugs to prison inmates and also gave financial assistance to the families of deceased and financially challenged members.
The Vice Chancellor stressed the need for other alumni of the university to emulate the gesture done by the class 92 forum.
