Bayero University Kano (BUK), has inducted 146 medical doctors into the medical profession.
The induction ceremony took place at Mahmoud Tukur Theatre of the old campus of the university on Friday, with various stakeholders, professors, parents and relatives in attendance.

While inducting the doctors into the profession, the Register of the Medical And Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr T.A.B Sanusi, said out of the 146 inducted doctors, 19 are dentists, while 127 are medical doctors.
Speaking shortly after the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, said the doctors came at a time when their services are badly needed in the country.
He urged them to work hard in saving patients in the country.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Sani Muhammad Gumel, the VC expressed optimism that the doctor’s strike will soon come to an end.
The chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kano State chapter, Dr Usman Ali, urged the doctors to endure the challenges of the profession and put ahead from where they would stop.
‘Automatic employment for indigenes’
However, the Director-General, Kano State Hospital Management Board, Doctor Nasir Alhassan Kabo, said the state government has promised to employ all the Kano State indigenes among the doctors into the civil service as house officers.
He said the state government had since been waiting for the young doctors to graduate and accommodate them into state healthcare services so as to boost their efforts of improving healthcare delivery.
On their part, the young doctors promised to take the challenges ahead and contribute to moving the country’s health sector forward.
