Newly established Bayero University Kano (BUK)’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has agreed to partner with a Kano-based leading agricultural produce giant, L & Z integrated Farms Limited for the provision of veterinary field stations, ambulatory services and other practical training in order to set standards and quality in teaching and research as part of the requirement for the accreditation of the faculty.
During the signing of the documents which was performed at the office of the Vice Chancellor’s Committee room, the Cofounder/ Chief Executive of L & Z Integrated Farms Limited, Alhaji Muhammad Damakka Abubakar, expressed delight at the collaboration. He described the development as an honour to his company by the citadel of learning.
He explained that his company would do everything humanly possible to ensure the success of the project, which is aimed at setting high standards and quality for the veterinary medicine programme which stands out as one of the best in the country.
Part of the agreement signed between the university and the agricultural firm was that L & Z Farms Limited would be extending training services to students of veterinary medicine in artificial insemination, poultry management, milk hygiene and diary production, an area which the company had made strides over the years, among other facilities and services to be provided by the company.
The university on its part would be rendering ambulatory clinics and community extension services to the neighboring villages for the health of their animals. The university would also provide capacity building to the staff of L & Z Farms which will go a long way in boosting the production capacity of the cows in terms of milk and others, as well as improving the health status of the animals.
