Dr. Maikaba made the disclosure at the mock Annual General Meeting with 300 level students of the department, held at Musa Abdullahi Auditorium of the university.
He said the faculty comprises of three departments namely; Journalism – which refers to the aggregating, writing, editing and presenting of news or news articles for widespread distribution, typically in electronic publications and broadcast news media, for the purpose of informing the audience.
The second department is Mass Communication – which is collectively the communication media, especially television, radio and newspapers.
And finally Visual Arts Studies – which mostly relates to the vision in a motive/theatre or an element of something that depends on sight. For instance, an image, a picture, and a graphic that is usually in contrast with normal text or audio.
The rationale behind the upgrading, he said, is to provide students with critical knowledge and techniques of their course of study.
