The VC, who revealed this during a book presentation and review held at Musa Abdullahi auditorium of BUK’s new site, said the centre will focus on Islamic and interfaith studies in Nigeria for peaceful coexistence of different faiths.
Prof. Rasheed, who was the chief host at the occasion, commended the authors for digging up the contributions of Islamic scholars to modern civilisation, saying they have demonstrated moral and academic excellence that BUK is well known for.
The book titled “Islam: Spark of Global Civilisation; How Islam Spearheaded the Evolution of Modern Civilisation” was co-authored by Professor Aliyu Dauda, Professor Oumar Al-Moubarak, Dr. L.D Fagwalawa, Mal. Abdullahi Yahaya and Mal. Yakubu Bello Tyav.
Kano State Deputy Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who was the book chief presenter, applauded the scholars for their immense contribution to knowledge and scholarship by bringing out various contributions of Islamic scholars to modernity.
Dr. Ganduje, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Nadu Yahaya, pledged financial contribution to the authors.
The book reviewer, Dr. Salisu Shehu, said the authors have done a great work, suggesting that the contribution of ancient Sokoto caliphate on political thought and ideology should be admitted into the subsequent edition of the book.
Meanwhile, Prof. Rasheed purchased 12 copies of the book at the rate of N250,000 while the representative of Kano State deputy governor, Alhaji Nadu Yahaya, bought a copy of the book at the cost N100,000.
In another development, the BUK Vice Chancellor, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, said the institution has concluded arrangement to start part-time degree programmes next year.
