Renowned Nigerian writer and administrator, Dr Bukar Usman will be giving a keynote address on The Philosophy of Hausa Musicology: A Case Study of Mamman Shata and Mahamaduo Gao Felingue .
This will take place at a conference on the two musicians at the Universite Tahoua, Niger Republic from August 17 to 20th.
Mamman Shata is a legendary Hausa musician from Katsina whose lyrics have been subjects of studies by scholars across the world, while Mahamaduo Gao is a famed Nigerien singer who sang in Hausa. One of his most famous songs is ‘Nijeriya da Nijar’ which he sang in 1970.
Dr. Usman, author of over 20 books is a researcher and folklorist and will be exploring the philosophy in the lyrics of the two singers. Dr. Usman writes both in English and Hausa.
