Speaking to Feverpitch yesterday, the seasoned journalist who won NPL’s Best Manager of the season award said the management of the club is satisfied with the performance of the team which made its debut this season yet gave a good account of itself.

He said for the simple fact that Bukola is the only club that has kept its premier league status among the clubs that got promoted to the elite division last season is enough cause for celebration.

The Team Manager said even as the club could not pick one of the continental tickets due to the financial challenges it faced, it performed satisfactorily.

He therefore dedicated his NPL award to the players and other management members of the club as he said it was a collective effort that fetched him the award.

“As you can see Bukola is the only team among the four clubs that got promoted to the Premier League that has kept its Premier League status. As I am talking to you, it is celebration galore in our camp. We have regarded ourselves as the proverbial lizard that praises itself even though other people could not praise it. We have to praise ourselves because we did tremendously well.

“We made an appreciable effort. We did not escape relegation. We were comfortable on the table throughout. And if not for the financial crisis we had, we would have picked a continental ticket. But we have no regret over that.

“With the impact we have made this season, we are going to improve and consolidate on our performance to ensure that we pick a continental ticket next season. In addition, I dedicate my NPL award as the best Manager of the season to every member of the club. I did not succeed alone”.

Chukwuemeka expressed confidence that with the taking over of the club by the former governor of the state, Senator Bukola Saraki, the club would enjoy better sponsorship.

He said as an avid football supporter, the former governor would surely provide the enabling environment for the club to fight for a continental ticket next season.

“At the end of the season, we put the club on sale and it has been bought by the former governor of the state, Senator Bukola Sarki. As you know, he is a keen sports man and follower of football. It is an open secret that he is a share holder in Arsenal FC of London.

“And you will recall that his tenure as governor of Kwara brought about football revolution in the state. The establishment of the magnificent Kwara Football Academy and turning into international standard of Kwara Township Stadium as well as ensuring that both Kwara United FC and Bukola Babes enjoyed enabling environment to thrive means he is passionate about the game and he would give us the necessary support”.
