The inauguration of the Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reflects an institutional response to the need for strengthening internal cohesion within the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly in addressing areas of misalignment that naturally arise within a large and diverse political platform.

Again, the decision to entrust the chairmanship of the committee to Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State aligns with the party’s emphasis on structured engagement and conflict resolution. Buni’s experience in managing internal party processes, including during periods of significant realignment ahead of the 2023 general elections, provides a relevant context for the task before the committee.

In one of the world’s inspiring conflict resolution quotes and contexts, Horace Mann stated that: “Do not think of knocking out another person’s brains because he differs in opinion from you. It would be rational to knock yourself on the head because you differ from yourself 10 years ago.”

In my opinion, this decision came at the right time. The composition and mandate of the committee underscore the seriousness of its assignment. As the party continues to consolidate internally, there is growing public expectation, especially among younger stakeholders, for clear frameworks, practical strategies and inclusive mechanisms that strengthen participation, coordination and mobilisation within the party’s structures.
