Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has congratulated the new Emir of Gudi, Alhaji Ismaila Ahmed, describing his emergence as widely accepted by the people-an indication of popular endorsement.

He extended the congratulatory message during a thank-you visit by the Gudi Emirate delegation to the governor at the Government House in Damaturu.

“You have been a successful politician and now a traditional ruler. No one needs to tell you the importance of tolerance and accommodation-you are already an expert with vast experience,” Governor Buni told the Emir.

He also prayed for the repose of the late Emir’s soul, adding, “May Allah forgive his shortcomings and admit him into Aljannah Firdaus.”

Governor Buni urged the traditional institutions to intensify efforts in combating drug abuse within their domains.

He said, “As custodians of culture and tradition, you have a significant role in the moral upbringing of the youth. The consumption of illicit drugs is fast becoming a major menace in Northern Nigeria.

“Unlike elected political leaders, traditional rulers are lifelong leaders. We must therefore unite to defeat this growing threat.”

He described the traditional institution as highly respected and influential, making it a vital ally in the fight against drug abuse.

“The government and traditional institutions must work hand in hand to eliminate this menace,” Governor Buni added.
