Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the post service housing estate for its retired personnel in Calabar, capital of Cross River State.
At the event, attended by the Obong of Calabar on whose community the estate is situated, the Army boss said that the welfare of their serving and retired personnel is very important, and that they have the means and capacity to provide accommodation for them.
Buratai said the army was not only having its retired personnel in mind as they embark on the housing project but members of the public as well.
“The army will continue to lend support to the post service housing development in its drive to provide shelter to both serving and retired military personnel as well as the civil populace to mitigate the housing deficit in the country,” he said.
He affirmed that “the establishment of a mega estate will be an added boost to the prevailing climate of peace and security which is critical for the entrepreneurial and economic resurgence of the state.”
He further reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army to continue to sustain the improvement on the security situation, social and economic activities in the state, adding that “as a major commercial industrial centre in Nigeria, the overall economic prosperity of our nation is substantially tied to what happens in Cross River State.”
Also speaking at the event, Governor Ayade said the post service housing estate was being undertaken by his government in conjunction with the Nigerian Army.
Ayade urged the army to ensure the housing designs reflect the green and eco friendly status which the state is known for.
