The Federal Government has pledged to rebuild the burnt library complex of the University of Jos (Unijos) and restore lost academic materials through the special intervention of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Executive Secretary of TETFund, Dr. Abdullahi Bichi Baffa, disclosed this during an on-the-spot assessment of the burnt library with a team from the fund recently.
The library complex hosts two faculties and four departments as well as the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facility.
A statement from the agency, said Dr. Baffa told the university committee led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, that the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, had directed the TETFund to ensure that the least UniJos got was the restoration of the burnt library complex.
“The loss caused by the fire incident is something that cannot be quantified because of the loss of some academic materials that no amount of money can replace,” he said.
He said library is the soul of any institution and the news of the fire incident was received with sadness.
“The honourable minister of education commiserates with the management and students of the university, that is why he is interested in how and what we do to ensure that the library complex is quickly restored and becomes functional again,” he said.
