A 25-year-old bus conductor, Azeez Olaifa, who allegedly snatched a lady’s handbag, was on Tuesday granted N50,000 bail by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The Magistrate, J.A. Adegun, ordered the accused to produce one surety in the like sum as part of the bail conditions.

He said that the surety must his blood relation.

Adegun also said that the surety must be gainfully employed and should provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Olaifa, a resident of No. 1, Wasiu Olayinka St., Ijoko, Ogun, was arraigned for conspiracy and stealing, which contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Under the Criminal Law, the accused may be sentenced to three years imprisonment on conviction.

The Prosecutor, Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the accused conspired with two others still at large to perpetrate the crime with a motorcycle.

He said that the accused and his accomplices stole a handbag containing a mobile phone valued at N15, 000 and a cash sum of N6, 000 belonging to one Nkechinyen Okezie.

The prosecutor said that the offences were committed on March 10 at about 4.30 p.m., at Ajegunle area, Alagbado suburb of Lagos.

The accused, however, denied the charges.

The court adjourned the case until April 21 for mention. (NAN)
