Bus driver crushes Okada rider to death in Lagos

A commercial motorcyclist popularly called Okada rider was yesterday crushed to death by a commercial bus around Agege area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m, as the deceased identified as Alao Oja, waited at their loading point for passengers.
Daily Trust learnt that one of the commercial buses at a mini park in the area which is adjacent Pen Cinema Police Divisional Headquarters was being driven out of the park when the driver had a brake failure.
One of the Okada riders said, “when we saw the direction of the bus, we all ran for our dear lives but Baba Oja wasn’t that lucky. He ran into the moving bus with his motorcycle”.
The man who hailed from Shaki in Oyo State died on the spot.
Another motorcyclist who also ran into the faulty bus while trying to escape, sustained injuries.
It was learnt that the driver of the bus was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Our correspondent sighted the corpse of the deceased in one of the Danfo buses as family members were making arrangements to convey the body to his home state.
Another Okada rider confirmed to our reporter that the deceased normally picks his passengers at Oke Ira in Ogba Lagos but because schools are not in session, he decided to explore the Agege area.
The incident caused tension around the area as the Okada riders threatened a show down with bus drivers. Police operatives at the divisional headquarters had to move in to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
