An 18-seater commercial bus on Sunday ran over a 10-year-old bystander at the Doyin bus stop area of Orile in Lagos, killing the victim on the spot.
The deceased identified as Chukwudi, was said to be in the company of his father and siblings when the incident occurred.
The deceased was on his way to church along with his father and siblings when he was knocked down by the bus.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the incident occurred around 7.30 am.

Hundeyin said the father of the deceased identified simply as Bernard reported the incident to the police at Bode Thomas Division.
According to him, the deceased’s father said he was on his way to church along with his children around 7.30 am, and standing on a culvert at Doyin bus stop, at Iganmu, a Nissan coastal bus with number JJE 134 XK, driven by one Waidi Saheed (65) smashed into his son, one Chukwudi. He said, “The vehicle smashed the head of the 10- year-old boy, killing him on the spot. Based on the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer moved to the scene with a team of policemen.
“In the course of evacuating the corpse, some miscreants attacked the officers with stones and bottles.
“The officers were able to repel the miscreants with the assistance of a patrol team from the division. The corpse was deposited at the morgue.”
